Difference Between Organic, Referral, And Social Website Traffic
By FTS | January 22nd, 2011When you start an online business building traffic will be a crucial step if you want a decent income. In the online business world the more traffic you get the more money you will make. Building traffic to your presence is a long process and you should build the traffic from numerous sources. When trying to build free website traffic to your website or blog there are three sources you should be concerned with. The first and most important source of traffic should be organic traffic which is the traffic that comes from search engines. The second type of traffic is referral traffic and this is the traffic that comes from other websites that have your link. The final type of traffic and another important form of traffic to focus on is social traffic. This traffic comes from such sources as facebook.com, twitter.com, digg.com, stumbleupon.com, and other bookmarking and networking websites.
Focusing on search engine traffic will means you need to focus on referral traffic as well. To rank well within the search engines you will need to build links toward your web presence on external websites. This will not only help you rank well, but if you build the links on authority websites that have traffic then you will get referral traffic as well. A few different ways you can get both referral traffic and help your website rank well within the search engines is submitting articles to the top article directories. These directories have quite a bit of traffic so when you submit your articles placing links in the authors resource you will get traffic from the article directory and the links will help you rank well within the search engines. Another place where you can gain great referral traffic and links which will help you rank well is guest posting on top blogs within your niche. The majority of blogs will allow you to write posts and submit leaving a link to your presence. Make sure to follow the guest posting rules.
The final type of traffic is social traffic and has quickly become a source that rivals search. Building a large social network can bring success even without traffic from Google and the other major search engines. Personally I like mixing all forms of traffic finding search and social traffic having unique benefits. When trying to build traffic from social sources such as the major networking and bookmarking websites the key is being social rather than spammy. The more time you spend working on these websites the more friends you will make and the larger your network will grow. To have success with social websites you need to add quality content. Keep your link sharing to a minimum.
