Learn To Blog
By FTS | May 28th, 2011Have you ever heard of a blog? Of course, there are literally millions of blogs on the internet. Blogging is obviously an extremely popular method of informally discussing popular topics or anything that may be on an author’s mind that will be shared with the World. Blogs took a little while to become popular, but as more people began to use the internet more frequently for reading recreationally blogs became more popular. A snapshot of the chronology of blog publishers would start with teens and college students, followed by professional journalists and columnists, and end with pretty much everyone else using them. One of the biggest factors that played a significant role in the mass birth of bloggers is simply the number of free blog publication services that are available.
These days anyone can begin their blogging career in minutes, it’s crazy! Blogs are extremely simple to setup and get started with publications. Google offers a free blog program and network that’s called blogger. A negative aspect of using free blog hosting sites like blogger is that your blog url is a sub domain. Sub domains are a part of another primary domain and look similar to this: http://yoururl.primarydomain.com. It looks pretty absurd and it’s difficult for visitors to memorize. When I first began blogging I used blogger, but when I got a bit more serious I purchased my own domain and moved on to using WordPress.
WordPress is the biggest name in blogging in my opinion. All that WordPress (WP) is a very powerful free blogging program that’s easy to use. This program is supported by every major professional web-hosting service, and most webhosts have an automatic installation of wordpress available through the cPanel. Purchasing a domain and web hosting service is great because this gives you full rights over your blog, its content, and gives you total control. I highly advise taking this route and purchasing your own domain if you are serious about blogging. WP is very popular so there’s a ton of information available, not to mention the folks at WP a very friendly, helpful, and continue to support and make improvements to their software. WP also, offers a free hosting service, but the downside is dealing with the whole sub domain problem again.
Blogs are very easy to use and setup, but they can become more complicated as you begin to customize your blog. The basic look and layout of your blog is called a theme. There are literally thousands of themes available for free. Themes can be created if you know a little html, css, and php, and they can also be purchased from many different online businesses. I personally like coding so creating a new theme is always fun for me, but this can be very complicated for new bloggers unfamiliar with html and scripting languages. But like I said there are thousands of free themes available that are great, and are perfect for people that are just starting with blogging; it’s just a matter of picking a theme that suits your preference and blog. Blogging is very simple, the challenging part is usually trying to figure out how to increase website traffic or how to increase website ranking.
This was just a basic and simple overview of blogging and I hope it has been informative to those new to blogging. Overall, blogging has become very easy, free, and is widely available for everyone; even for people who do not know how to code. Even though this was not covered should be mentioned that blogging can also be financially rewarding as well. If you don’t already have your own blog it’s definitely worth checking out. Who knows maybe your future blog will be listed on google page one!
