Web Forums For Publishers
By FTS | May 28th, 2011These days the web itself appears to be one giant social network. It’s extremely difficult to find anyone today who has not ever participated on a website forum before. Forums themselves have a tendency to create its own following and communities of users as long as new discussions are constantly available. Most web and blog publishers today usually wonder how to increase website traffic, and how to increase website ranking. If you are a web publisher and have been thinking about these same topics perhaps you should consider implementing forums on your sites.
Web forums add interactivity to your sites and allow visitors to be involved and participate on sites. As mentioned previously, forums can create a community of users on your site that actively participate, which will keep them coming back to your site at a later time. As long as active members are present these communities should continue to grow into the future. Typically, the higher your website is ranked on search engines the easier it is for people to find your site and join your forums.
Forums are also great because they constantly add unique content to your website. This is great because you’ll always have new and fresh information available, and the best part is that you didn’t have to work and spend time publishing the content yourself.
Creating a web forum these days is very quick and simple to setup and use. Forums are written in languages like php and python, which are powerful computer languages that that can use databases. If setting up a forum sounds like it’s going to be a difficult project don’t worry, it’s not. There are a few great and commonly used php forum programs that have been pre-written and ready for use that are completely free. phpBB is one of the more commonly known and widely used web forum. Forums like this are easy enough to install and get going on your website if you follow the installation directions. I’m not exaggerating, but you can literally have your first web forum setup and going in ten minutes or less.
Like I said phpBB is widely recognized and used so if you run into any difficulties it’s easy enough to get some support, or even find a solution to your problem because it’s likely someone had a similar problem at some point. This program is extremely customizable as well. One important thing to note is to always make sure that your files and database is backed up prior to customizing your forums. Also, keep in mind that you should not try to customize any forums to openly allow the use of html because this can cause a breach in your site’s security. The new standard of enabling users to use a limited form of html is referred to as BBcode.
Overall, forums are a awesome method of creating a community, adding user interactivity, and generating traffic on your website. Who knows, maybe forums will help bring your site one step closer to google page one.
