By Nick | March 23rd, 2009Dragon Boat Racing is the world’s largest growing water sport and is also the most exciting. Twenty paddlers move in unison, combining strength with teamwork in a boat whose elaborate design originates in ancient China. Its origins are traced back more than 2000 years.
Dragon Boat racing has strong legends behind its 2000 year history. The Dragon is a symbol of water, said to rule the rivers and seas and in turn dominates the clouds and rains. Qu Yuan was a lengendary poet banished from the kingdom of Chu. He wandered the countryside writing his poetry. When he had heard that the kingdom of Chu had fallen he leapt into the river of Mi Lo, holding a great rock symbolising is heartfelt sorrow.
The villagers that loved Qu Yuan raced into the river with there fishing boats beating drums and splashing their paddles to keep the fish away from his body. I spent two years racing with the Great Britain Dragon Boat Team. Racing in the world championships in Nottingham, UK and the european championships in Malmo, Sweden. The fun and excitement that I experienced was overwhelming. What I found with this sport is that anyone can do this sport men and women and of all ages. It’s also an excellent way to keep fit!
From competing in the sport of Dragon boat racing. I soon learned that being the strongest more powerful team didn’t always achieve the best result. I learned Teamwork is everything. Working as a team is more crucial than strength. A team with twenty paddlers all perfectly synchronized will almost always beat a stronger, but less coordinated team. In my daily life I am also part of a team. I’m working from home and earn a decent salary with a team of internet marketers. Since working online I have found the same response. This is where you will see people online all trying to do it their own way, all trying to compete against each other in the same boat.
The formula’s are there, people just need to know how to follow them. Therefore, what I have found is that people do not need “A Top Opportunity guaranteed to earn you money” what they really need is the education and team support. I encounter people online everyday saying I have spent this and I have spent that, some say they have been online for a few years and still haven’t had their “lucky break” with the right product for them. On the internet systems work people fail.
What I enjoyed about racing was the moral , the fun we had together, the team and personal achievements we had done, the collective determination and passion. These are all aspects that I find working online with others. When you reach the finishing post you have an overwhelming feeling of reaching that goal together. The same when I receive comments from friends saying they have hit their goals online as well. All because of the effort of TEAMWORK!
