Developing a Winning Mindset for Opt-In Success

By 1ClickProfitSt.com | April 8th, 2009

You may not think that it makes too much of a difference, but the way that you mentally manage your opt-in efforts can make the difference between sub-par results and exceptional results. The reason is similar to why any other campaign pays off more lucratively when you are hyped up about it. When you are sure that you are winning, you apply your time and enthusiasm to everything you do for it and transmit that signal to your customers. Unfortunately not all plans succeed right away, so how do you keep your enthusiasm up?

Make a Plan

When you have a game plan and set smaller goals (rather than pining away for the thousandth member on the first day), you give yourself both something to look forward to, and something to recognize at day’s end. If this is your first rodeo, you should be cautious to make your steps slowly, and with great care, so that you present yourself as you want to be seen. It is really easy to make yourself appear like a spam marketing outfit if you don’t think out your steps clearly. Obviously that can make your first campaign a slow-starter, but the blueprint that you develop and refine for your own niche at that time will save you time for each future campaign moving forward.

Reasonable Goals

When I tell you that you need to set reasonable goals for your early efforts, I mean you should really take one careful step at a time so that you don’t end up undoing all of your works before you even launch. A reasonable game plan may look like this (assuming you already have a promotion in place for opt-ins):

· Day 1: Decide on squeeze page layout and what you will be offering to your new opt-in customers. Brainstorm your promotional concept.

· Day 2: Develop, proof, and finalize squeeze page content. If you have additional time, read it again. If your site copy is not perfect, you will lose visitors to your lack of professionalism.

· Day 3: Develop, proof, and finalize the autoresponder message as well as the following three blasts for your campaign. Again, you want these perfect. Having your copy ready will allow you some slack in the line to manage unforeseen bumps in the road after launch.

· Day 4: Drop your copy and your code into your site template. Test, tweak, and test some more from your local files. Visit http://www.w3.org for free tools to validate your code and test for compatibility.

· Day 5: Upload your files to your host. Test, tweak, and test some more with your newly hosted files and functional opt-in form. Submit your page to the major search engines, and then come back to test again.

· Day 6: Begin marketing campaign upon final proofing and successful testing.

This may seem like a long trip to get from point A to point B, but one week is really not that long to produce a successful opt-in campaign.

Celebrate the Little Things

While I’d never endorse refreshing your autoresponder all day long on launching day (though I’m sure I’m not the only one that has been guilty of that), take notice when you receive your first signs of success. Just like a first sale, a first subscription is worth a victory dance around the desk. When you take the time to pat yourself on the back, it feels that much better at every win. Likewise, don’t beat yourself up for your pitfalls. You’re not going to get it all right the first time. Learn from your mistakes and move forward so that you can develop a strong marketing campaign, without self-punishment, so that you can continue to motivate yourself to the top.
